I would often sing the song "You are my Sunshine" to my daughter when she was a little girl. Late August, in the dog days of summer, I decided to "live" sculpt her during a demonstration with everyone watching. We were heading to the beach after, so she already had on a floppy hat and bathing suit. I originally felt like the beach ball represented the child spirit and playfulness found in those short weeks at the end of summer. Now I see this sculpture in a more profound light; she is the young generation, holding the Earth with love and protection. Either way, our children, radiate warmth and energy and are our sunshine.
