Madelyn arrived at my studio as a young lady and not the little dancer I sculpted only two years prior (Madelyn in Red). In this new version of Madelyn, she is becoming a teenager, yet her joy of dance and contagious smile showed me that her child-like spirit has remained unchanged since the first time we met. These quick studies are truly about the moments that we grasp, to capture unique connections in a time that will never again repeat. Children are our barometers for time swiftly passing, and our reminder to appreciate the moment. I give myself only three hours to sculpt each work in this series; expressing the innocence of the children, their youth and the endless fleeting of time.
