New Painting Series About Motherhood
The titles of this series is based on a childhood book I grew up with by Mercer Mayer. Reading it as a child I thought it was funny. But now as an adult I see that it’s an ode to busy mothers everywhere. Children try to help, but often they do just the opposite. And it takes many years until we can turn our backs and trust that the “help” does not turn into a disaster. I noticed this just the other day when my teen decided to cook ramen and the entire cap of sesame seeds opened onto the big bowl of soup. Ruined.
Do I ever get a break? Yes – when I paint them and laugh about it all. I stop focusing on the delays and the messes and realize how grateful I am for these delicious beings.
